We learned today from a friend (far from New York) that vegetable-peeler and master salesman Joe Ades took his final bow from his stage - the streets of New York - this past Sunday at the age of 75. He was a Union Square icon. His personal story was just as entertaining as his pitch. He even brought me in to his demonstration once and had me peel a potato (although I didn't do as well). It was amazing how he was able to grab the attention of New Yorkers, people with so much on their minds and in a rush to get to somewhere else.
We will miss seeing you sitting on your low stool in your fine suit and hearing the eloquent way you said "potato" like no one else can. We are sorry we didn't get to buy a peeler from you.
